Session Tips microphone

Here are a few pointers which will make the recording experience more enjoyable, efficient, and less expensive.

microphone Have all of the words to the songs typed out on one piece of paper.
microphone Include key, chords, and any other important items in your notes.
microphone Try to have an idea of what the tempo to your song is. I like to record to a click track. It makes future overdubbing and editing much easier. I am also aware that some forms of music do not work to a click, and that is fine, I can adapt.
micrphone Have guitars and basses properly intonated with new strings. Especially basses! It makes a huge difference in what can be captured from the performance.
microphone Properly maintained amps, pedals, patch cords, etc. all help make for a better experience.
microphone Bring extra strings and a capo.
microphone A properly tuned drum kit with a hole in the kick drum is preferred.
microphone Check for squeaky kick pedals and hi hat assemblies. All those little noises that are lost in the barrage of band practices suddenly become very apparent when recording.
microphone And just a personal request: use as few toms as is necessary to get the job done, and hit hard!
microphone Bring whatever food and drink you need to help sustain your performance.
